Moros y Cristianos
of Calpe
Tradition, History, and Celebration
In the month of October, Calpe dresses up in style to
celebrate one of the most anticipated festivals of the year:
The Moros y Cristianos.
This festivity blends the grandeur of
religious and popular events with a festive atmosphere
that attracts both locals and tourists.
History
The Moros y Cristianos of Calpe, held in honor of its patron, the Santísimo Cristo del Sudor, is recognized as a Regional Tourist Interest Celebration.
It was in 1976 when a group of locals from Calpe decided to launch a festive project to enhance the celebrations dedicated to the Santísimo Cristo del Sudor. Drawing inspiration from historical events that took place on October 22, 1744, they gave rise to the Moros y Cristianos in Calpe.
