The Moors and Christians Association of Calp took part last weekend in the extraordinary parade held in Cocentaina to mark the 50th anniversary of the National Union of Festive Entities (UNDEF). The event brought together representatives from all municipalities that are part of the organisation and became one of the main commemorative highlights of this milestone anniversary.

The capital of the Comtat welcomed thousands of festival participants from different parts of the country in a day defined by fellowship and recognition of five decades of work by UNDEF in preserving, promoting and disseminating the Moors and Christians festivals. The parade took place along the main streets of Cocentaina and showcased the richness and diversity of these celebrations, deeply rooted in many towns and cities.

Calp’s delegation took part in this historic gathering alongside the rest of the member municipalities, sharing a sense of belonging to a tradition that represents one of the most important cultural expressions in the region. The participation of Calp also helped to highlight its own festivities and strengthen ties with other communities that keep this festive heritage alive.

The event formed part of the special programme organised by UNDEF to commemorate its 50-year trajectory. Founded in 1976, the organisation currently brings together dozens of associations and festival committees dedicated to Moors and Christians celebrations, playing a key role in safeguarding this cultural heritage and coordinating cooperation among participating towns.

The Moors and Christians Association of Calp emphasised the importance of taking part in such a significant celebration and congratulated UNDEF on its 50 years of history, as well as the municipality of Cocentaina for hosting an event that brought together thousands of people around tradition, culture and the festive spirit.
